KATHMANDU: A pivotal meeting between the ruling coalition and the CPN-UML took place at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, yielding positive outcomes on the formation of high-level committee for the investigation of gold smuggling case.

According to Baluwatar sources, UML Chair KP Oli recently left the meeting with positive development.

“Today, we have come remarkably close to reaching an agreement regarding the commission’s mandate. The discussions are still in progress,” UML whip Ramesh Baraula said.

Sources suggest that the Prime Minister is scheduled to address today’s parliamentary session, where preparations are underway to announce the establishment of the high-level commission of inquiry.

The main opposition UML, known for its continuous obstruction of the House, had previously threatened to disrupt the House’s proceedings today, claiming that the government had reneged on its prior agreement regarding the commission’s formation.

The issue of forming the commission has been a point of contention among party representatives, necessitating its escalation to top leadership for resolution.

This high-stakes discussion at Baluwatar this morning included Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Deputy Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, and Home Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka from the Congress, UML chairman Oli, Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel, and Whip Mahesh Bartaula. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha was also present during the deliberations.
