Bagmati River Cleanup Campaign continues

KATHMANDU: The Bagmati River Cleanup Campaign, launched under the slogan “Volunteer for the Nation for Two Hours a Week,” continued on Saturday with its 702nd weekly cleanup drive.

The cleanup was carried out along the Bagmati River and its banks in front of Guheshwori Temple. Campaigner Kishor Singh Shahi said the drive focused on removing waste generated by the immersion of Durga Puja idols in the river during Dashain. Idols worshipped during Nava Durga had been placed along the riverbanks.

During the campaign, biodegradable waste was buried along the banks, while non-biodegradable waste was collected and transported by truck for proper management, Shahi said.

The cleanup drive saw active participation from social worker Tostaraj Chhetri, Ishwor Pudasaini of the Upper Bagmati Cleanup Campaign, Chitra Sunuwar, coordinator of the Kirtipur Sundarighat Cleanup Campaign, social worker Leeladevi Khatiwada, and Saroj Poudel of the Empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee.

Organizers said the next weekly cleanup campaign would also be held at the same location, continuing efforts to keep the Bagmati River and its surrounding areas clean.
