SAFF U-19 Championship: Nepal facing Pakistan today



KATHMANDU: The SAFF U-19 Championship commences today with a showdown at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu.

In the opening match, Nepal is set to clash with Pakistan, setting the stage for a month-long football extravaganza.

This tournament features six South Asian teams, including Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Maldives, all vying for the coveted championship title.

The teams are divided into two groups: Group A comprises Nepal, Pakistan, and Maldives, while Group B includes India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

Nepal, eager to make a strong start, faces Pakistan in their inaugural match on Thursday, and the anticipation is palpable.

Following this, Nepal will take on Maldives in a high-stakes encounter on Monday.

In a pre-match press conference held at the ANFA Complex Satdobato on Wednesday, the coaches and captains from all participating teams expressed their confidence in their preparation for the championship.

U-19 national football team head coach Sunil Shrestha praised SAFF’s meticulous preparations, emphasizing that the players’ hard work has set the stage for a remarkable tournament.

Captain of the U-19 Nepali football team, Ziarath Seikh, echoed this sentiment, affirming that all aspects of their preparations were meticulously addressed.

The coaches and players from other participating countries shared similar sentiments, expressing their determination to bring the championship trophy back to their respective nations.
