KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shekhar Koirala has voiced his serious concerns about various issues, including the party’s operation with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Koirala accused Deuba of running the party with a “single-minded approach”, an NC source claimed.
On Wednesday, Koirala reached Deuba’s Dhumbarahi-based residence with NC Vice President Dhanraj Gurung and Joint General Secretary Jiwan Pariyar.
Sources quoted Koirala as saying, “I will not engage in further discussions with you. Do as you please. I will proceed in my own way.”
Prior to this meeting, Koirala held a discussion with leaders of his faction and central members in Baluwatar on Tuesday during which the leaders disgruntled with Deuba urged Koirala to warn Deuba against making unilateral party decisions.
Koirala, in his conversation with Deuba, raised serious concerns about the party’s operation as a single entity, alleging that it was acting against the laws and principles, the source added.
He pointed out that despite the NC’s participation in the government at the state and central levels, it had not been effective due to a lack of adherence to legal processes.
Koirala also criticized the formation of the Nepal Students’ Union and Tarun Dal, stating that they were against the party statute.
He also criticized Deuba for not accommodating the demand to send at least three ministers from his faction to the government.
Koirala expressed frustration that his suggestions and questions were being ignored.
This indicated a growing opposition within the party that NC President Deuba seemed unable to contain.
Koirala questioned Deuba’s lack of discussion on matters such as the appointment of chief ministers and ministers in the states within the party.
