KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has directed concerned authority to trim down the size of the delegation accompanying him to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
PM Dahal instructed Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal to reduce the delegation size from 24 members from the Prime Minister’s Office to just 5, as previously decided.
A source quoted the Prime Minister, stating, “Given the current economic situation of the country, it doesn’t make sense to bring a large group at this time.”
This matter is expected to be discussed at tomorrow’s cabinet meeting.
According to sources, PM Dahal will be accompanied by one personal secretary, one photographer, and two security personnel.
There is likelihood that Ganga Dahal, PM’s daughter, may accompany him.
Previously, it had been planned to send 24 members from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to depart for the United States on September 16.
He will address the 78th session of the General Assembly on September 21.
During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Dahal will participate in high-level events, including the Sustainable Development Goals Conference, Climate Ambition Summit, and other significant agendas.
Similarly, Prime Minister Dahal will attend a dinner hosted by American President Joe Biden in honor of the heads of state and government from various countries attending the General Assembly.
He will also hold sideline meetings with counterparts and delegations from different countries.
Following his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Dahal will fly directly to China on September 5.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Foreign Minister NP Saud will depart for the United States tomorrow (Tuesday).
