Water release from Narayani lift to take time

CHITWAN: Local farmers who could not timely cultivate paddy due to a long spell of drought this year were facing a double whammy when they did not get water from the Narayani Irrigation Project for paddy plantation.

The farmers got disappointed when the project was not likely to discharge water for now.

It was informed that it would take further time to release water for irrigation.

According to the project, it would take some time to complete the ongoing machine installation in the lift.

Project engineer Kulraj Chalise said that a new motor was being installed as the old pump motor went dysfunctional. Now four motors are being installed so it would take additional days for completing the task, Chalise further shared.

“Most probably installation would be completed by mid-July. We are planning to release water immediately after motor installation,” Chalise said

At the contractual cost of Rs 260 million, an Indian Company is installing machines, he informed.

“We have expedited the works in a way to release water for farmers in the third week of July”, he added.

With the re-operation of the Narayani Lift Project, Irrigation facilities would benefit farmers from different areas, including Narayanpur, Kailashnagar, Parasnagar, Fulbari, Shivanagar, Geetanagar and Parbatipur.

The project which has been in operation since 2040 BS provides irrigation services to 4,700 hectares of land.

As many as 25,000 households have been benefitted from the irrigation facilities every year.

However, farmers have been hit hard this time for not timely getting water from the project for irrigation.
