NUP Chair Ranjita calls meeting to discuss party merger

KATHMANDU: The Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) has called a central committee meeting on March 21-22.

Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha has scheduled the meeting at the party office in Madhya Baneshwar, according to NUP lawmaker Ganga Ram Chaudhary.

One of the main agenda items will be discussions on a possible merger with CK Raut’s Janamat Party.

Shrestha and Raut met on March 15, after which the Janamat Party claimed that she was in favor of party unification.

While NUP founder and patron Resham Chaudhary and Raut have had multiple discussions on merging the parties, Shrestha had not been involved in these talks before.

The decision on whether to move forward with the merger will be made based on the majority vote in the central committee meeting.

Shrestha has not commented on the matter yet. However, her husband Resham Chaudhary maintains that the party unification process is already underway.
