Supreme Court gives green light to CIB for probing Fraud and Organized Crime

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the cancellation of the interim order issued earlier not to arrest 17 people in the Lalita Niwas Land Grab Case.

The Apex Court ordered that 17 people who received an interim order granting permission for trial without keeping in detention should also be informed and presented during the hearing like others.

According to SC Spokesperson Bimal Paudel, then division bench of Justice Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Hari Prasad Phuyal announced the interim order void and issued a new order on Friday.

Earlier, on 3 July 2022, the Single bench of Supreme Court Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada issued an interim order not to arrest the 17 ‘applicants’ allegedly involved in the Lalita Niwas case.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police filed a vacant petition demanding the cancellation of the same interim order.

Hearing on the same petition, on July 7, SC ordered 17 people to be informed about the cancellation of the interim order.

Kaladhar Deuja, Surendraman Kapali, and Hupnedramani KC, who were arrested on June 27, were released after showing the same interim order.

The CIB has obtained arrest warrants against 406 people and is investigating the Lalita Niwas Land Grab Case in connection with organized crime.
