NC General Secy Thapa dissatisfied at party’s readiness to support small party’s premiership for ‘coalition’

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has expressed dissatisfaction at the party leader’s readiness to retain the coalition at any cost and support the fringe party’s premiership.

Addressing the first session of the NC Dolakha Kathmandu Liaison Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, General Secretary Thapa opined that the next policy convention should make it a record that we will not do anything outside the party regulations to come to power.

He expressed sadness that NC is even ready to let the 10-seat holder CPN-Unified Socialist Party lead the cabinet.

“Now that Prachandaji is the Prime Minister, why did the Congress come to the place where the leader of the party who won 10 seats will be the Prime Minister for another one and a half years? Why should NC support Madhav Kumar Nepal for one and half years to the post of Prime Minister?” General Secretary Thapa said.

He reiterated that the election ticket distribution system of the party has to be changed and made more objective and transparent.

“When a party gives the responsibility of distributing tickets to Dai (referring to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba), obviously, bhauju (sister-in-law, referring to Arju Rana Deuba) become decisive and interferes,” the NC General Secretary said, adding, “Now, the time has come to change this unfair system and make party governed by party statute.”
