Home Minister Shrestha hold talks with CPC Gen-Secy of Sichuan University Committee

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and General-Secretary of Communist Party of China (CPC), Sichuan University Committee, Gan Lin, held a meeting today.

During the meeting held at Sichuan University, Chengdu, they discussed the various issues of Nepal-China relations.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha lauded the role played by the University in further strengthening relations between the two countries.

He stressed that Nepal-China relations should be made stronger from different levels in the coming days.

Recalling that China is always standing in favor of Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity, DPM Shrestha expressed the belief that there would be continuous support and cooperation of China in Nepal’s development.

Similarly, General-Secretary Gan expressed belief that the University would further contribute to bring closer the bilateral ties between the two countries in the days to come.

The University has supported in Nepal’s human resources development by imparting knowledge in different faculties, and in science and technology, he added.

The General-Secretary further said the University has been holding discussion on various dimensions of Nepal-China relations by inviting persons related to education field and political parties.

Stating that the University has initiated studies on Nepal, India and Pakistan, among other countries by running the South Asia Study Centre, General Secretary Gan informed about the opening of the Nepal Studies Centre as well.

DPM Shrestha, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lok Bahadur Thapa, Home Ministry Joint Secretary Rudra Devi Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Mahesh Baral and Nepal’s Consular General at Chengdu, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, among other officials from the Nepal side participated in the meeting.

On the occasion, DPM Shrestha observed the Hydropower Study Centre at the University.

The Centre is conducting research on the construction of high-dam reservoir type hydroelectricity project.

The Nepali team was briefed about the works being carried out by the Centre.

Prior to this, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha gave a statement on the topics as Nepal-China relations, the world scenario, amongst the Sichuan University students.

The Nepali, Chinese and foreign students accorded a grand welcome to DPM Shrestha in the University campus.

Presently 66 students are pursuing higher studies in different subjects at the University. Some 600 students have graduated from the University over the last 10 years alone.
