Industry Minister Rijal urges Italy to increase investment in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Ramesh Rijal, has urged the government of Italy to increase investment in Nepal in the areas capable of yielding high results.

During his meeting with Italy’s non-resident ambassador to Nepal, Vincenzo De Luca, the Minister urged the EU member nation to scale up its investment in Nepal’s information technology, infrastructure development, service, hydropower and agricultural sectors.

He applauded direct foreign investment in Nepal from Italy, expressing his belief that Italy’s investment in Nepal would further grow during the term of Luca.

On the occasion, the two exchanged views on issues ranging from bilateral relations and mutual assistance to trade and investment.

Recalling Nepal and Italy’s shared positions on various global issues and the collaboration in multi-sectoral forums, the Minister hoped to see the continuity of this culture in the days ahead, too.

He applauded the support of Italy government to Nepal during the 2015 major earthquake and Covid-19 pandemic.

Stating that Nepal was soon officially upgrading from the category of the least developed country, he expressed his hope that the Italian government would further extend the coverage of its assistance to Nepal towards that end.

The ambassador said Italy observed an increased trade with Nepal and Italy-manufactured machines based on advanced technology would be imported by Nepal.

He talked about the possibility of enhancing the trade relations between the two nations in the future.

He apprised the Minister that the Government of Italy would be hosting ‘Rome Expo’ in 2030, hoping to see the Nepal’s participation with its art and cultural identities.
