Designated voting time for April 23 by-election is over

EC estimates less votes than in November 20 elections



KATHMANDU: Voting time for the by-election for the election of the members of the House of Representatives in three by-election centers has ended.

By-elections were held in Bara-2, Chitwan-2, and Tanahun-1.

According to the Election Commission, fewer votes were cast in this by-election than in the election held last November. The final details of today’s voting are yet to come.

Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel informed that Tanahun-1, which had witnessed 53 percent votes in November, saw only 51 percent votes this time.

“After five o’clock there is no queue at any booth,” he said.

In Bara-2 also, according to the details till 4:30, 56 percent of votes have been cast. This number is estimated to reach 60 percent. 64 percent of votes were cast in this constituency last November. The work of collecting ballot boxes has been started in Bara.

Similarly, Chief Electoral Officer Basudev Neupane shared that voting is still going on in Chitwan-2.

“Voting is going on because those who are in line can cast their votes,” he said.

According to Neupane, about 55 percent of votes were cast by 4.30 pm. Last November, there were around 72 percent votes in this constituency.
