Security Printing Press Corruption case: CIAA files Rs 690 million case against CEO Bikal Paudel



KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against 9 people, including the CEO of Surakshan Mudran Kendra, Bikal Poudel involved in the purchase case of the widely discussed Security Printing Press related irregularities.

The CIAA filed a case against 9 people including Poudel in a special court for corruption in the procurement of security printing press and the power system for the pressurized fuel storage tank.

Claiming that CEO Poudel’s action incurred a loss of Rs 690.8 million to the state coffers, CIAA has demanded him to reimburse the amount from him.

According to the anti-graft body, Poudel, the Director of Security Printing Center, committed corruption by colluding in the bid to purchase the power system, making unreasonable cost estimates, paying low-quality electric transformers and buying a bulk fuel tank system that was not justified.

Similarly, along with Poudel, the then CDE (currently the Ministry of Forest and Environment) Naveen Kumar Pokharel of the mechanical department has also faced a corruption case of millions of rupees. There is a case against 49 4.6 million rupees against him.

Likewise, a Rs 203.8 million corruption case has been filed against Ramesh Prasad Pokharel , the then Assistant Director of the Printing Center.

Other accused officials include, Manikman Maharjan, then Accounts Officer Ram Bahadur Budha, Branch Officer Shirish Upadhyay, Managing Director of Engineering Marketing Concern Rohitman Pradhan, and Director of Meptech Building Services Pvt. Bhuwan Maharjan.
