KATHMANDU: The government today withdrew its decision to host the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) in Kathmandu in August.
The government had come under immense pressure from different walks of life, including social media users, film artistes, and the opposition parties, for its decision to host the IIFA in Kathmandu.
They had come down heavily on the government for deciding to spend around Rs 55 million to host the foreign film award. The government, however, had claimed that the event was being organized to promote Nepal’s tourism sector and that it would not spend a single penny for the event.
The parliamentary committee had on Tuesday instructed the government to withdraw its decision.
