Parliamentary committee directs govt to halt IIFA

KATHMANDU: International Relations Committee of the Parliament has directed the government to halt much-hyped International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards to be held in Kathmandu.

The parliamentary committee on Tuesday summoned the officials of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Tourism Board and ordered them to halt the program arguing that it is against the national interest.

The Committee has concluded that if IIFA awards ceremony is organized, it will not only incur loss of millions of rupees to Nepal but it is also against national interest, independence and dignity.
