COAS Open Race Competition begins

KATHMANDU: The COAS Open Race competition organized on the occasion of Army Day has kicked off this morning.

Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma flagged off the competition which started from the playground at Military Headquarters.

The race organized in different categories will end upon reaching back to the same place.

The COAS is also participating in the five km walkathon organized as part of the competition. The walkathon is attended by senior army officers as well as people from various walks of life in the society.

As part of the competition, the 42 km distance marathon will start from the NA headquarters and will end at the starting point after passing through Tripureshwar, Maitighar, Koteshwar, Thimi, Sallaghari, Suryavinayak, Bhaktapur, Pepsicola, Gaushala, Chabahil, Maharajganj, Panipokhari, Nagpokhari and Bhadrakali.

The winners will be awarded with a cash prize along with medals and certificates. A total of 750 athletes are participating in the competition, according to Nepal Army.

The Nepal Army is celebrating its 260th foundation day this year. The Army Day is celebrated every year coinciding with the Mahashivaratri festival that falls on February 18 this year.
