Minister Giri expects journalists to write against corruption

CHITWAN: Minister for Health and Population, Padam Giri, has urged journalists to pen against corruption.

In his address to a program to mark the 25th establishment day of Press Chautari Nepal here today, the Minister urged journalists to bombard corruption and attempts for it.

“Economic prosperity is the prime agenda of the nation to take the country towards prosperity by eliminating poverty,” he said. Describing corruption as a constant hurdle for the journey towards prosperity and to end poverty, he said it must be prevented.

He also urged journalists to be accountable to their new contents and utilize their skills for the cause of changes.

Media is a watchdog the government performance and also the responsible for preventing the government from deviating from its track, according to the Minister who believed that Nepali media did a good progress in a short span of time and such reputation should be kept intact.

On the occasion, senior journalist Bishnu Chhimeki was honored with the ‘Dr Sarada-Tilchandra Bhattarai Journalism Award-2079 BS’.

The prize carries a purse of Rs 20,000. The prize amount was donated to Press Chautari, Chitwan chapter for the construction its building.
