Home Ministry introduces new procedures on CDO transfers

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced a procedure, the first of its kind, for the transfer of Chief District Officers (CDOs).

The procedure has been developed in accordance with Rule 9 of the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Regulations 2065 B.S.

The ‘Chief District Officer installation, transfer or deputation Procedures, 2079’ provides that the CDO will not be transferred to his/her home district.

The procedures are believed to be important to make the transfer of CDOs fair, transparent and orderly, said Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh.

The procedures have been introduced as per the instructions of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The procedures also outline the conditions to be met for being appointed a CDO in A, B and C category of districts.

For example, for being assigned as CDO of the districts in Kathmandu Valley, prior experience of working as a CDO in B and C category districts will be required.
