NC to consult JSP, Unified Socialist and LSP before nominating candidacy for Speaker



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, the largest party in the parliament, has decided to hold discussions with Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), CPN-Unified Socialist Party and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party before registering their candidacy for Speaker.

NC is preparing to nominate lawmaker Ishwari Neupane as the candidate for the Speaker.

NC is preparing to form an alliance of parties that have given a vote of confidence to the government but are not participating in the government.

On Wednesday morning, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba had a discussion with JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav and Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal at his Dhumbarahi based residence.

There was a discussion between them about going together to run for the Speaker and giving a vote of confidence to Saroj Kumar Yadav of JSP, Chief Minister of Madhes Province.

On Wednesday afternoon, NC called the top leaders of JSP, United Samajbadi Party and LSP to the parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar for a discussion, a leader informed.

In the House of Representatives, there are 89 MPs from the Congress, 12 from the JSP, 10 from the Unified Socialist Party and 4 from the LSP. These parties, which supported the government on January 10, have not joined the Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda-led government.

Earlier, NC office bearers meeting held on Wednesday decided to put up a candidate for the Speaker after gathering the support of other parties. The time for filing nominations for Speaker is from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM today; the election for the Speaker is scheduled for Thursday.
