Govt should work towards rapid economic development: Vice-President Pun



KATHMANDU: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed his confidence that the federal and provincial government would deliver on good-governance and quality public services.

VP Pun said so in a message of best wishes here today on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti observed by Magar, Tharu and Chantyal communities as their major cultural festival on the occasion on the first day of the Nepali month Magh.

Pun was hopeful that the federal and provincial governments would work rapidly for the security of the people, construction of physical infrastructures and prosperity of the country.

He stressed on the need for the federal and provincial government formed in the wake of recently held parliamentary elections to work towards achieving rapid economic growth.

Stating that Nepal was a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural nation with diverse geographical features, he mentioned that each community here had their own unique language, religion, culture, tradition, rituals and cultural as well as religious festivities.

According to him, Magar, Tharu and Chantyal communities celebrated Maghe Sankranti as the beginning of new fiscal year and the festival was primarily related to the nature.

Various cultures and communities celebrate the Maghe Sankranti festival with much fanfare as per their tradition.

As per the astrological chart, this day onwards the Sun begins it journey towards the northern hemisphere.

The Sun is believed to move from tropic of Sagittarius to that of Capricorn. The VP viewed that Maghe Sankranti, celebrated by various communities as per their traditions, had helped develop the feelings of mutual goodwill, love, fraternity, tolerance and unity and further fostered family reunion and emotional bonding.

“The days begin to get longer and nights shorter from this festival. As the sun rays become more radiant and darkness decreases, the human consciousness and potential to deliver pique. Therefore we can term this festival as the beginning of positive work and energy,” he asserted.

He wished that may this festival inspire all Nepalis to build a prosperous Nepal.
