Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane released on bail



KATHMANDU: Former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, who was alleged of raping a minor, has been released from jail today (Friday).

The Patan High Court on Thursday ordered the release of Lamichhane, on a bail of Rs 20 lakhs.

He was accused of raping a minor.

Sandeep had earlier filed a petition in the Patan High Court against the order of the Kathmandu District Court to keep him in custody and proceed with the proceedings in the rape case.

On Thursday, in the same application, a division bench of Justice Dhruba Raj Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal gave the orders to release Lamichhane on bail.

Lamichhane’s lawyer Saroj Ghimire said that the court ordered him to be released on a bond of Rs 20 lakhs.

Meanwhile, Lamichhane is not allowed to contact the victim, and if he is found to have contacted the victim and her family members, he will be sent back to jail.

Court registrar Thagindra Kattel said that the court has ordered Lamichhane not to contact the 17-year-old rape victim.

Meanwhile, the court has also barred Sandeep from flying abroad.

He is also required to seek permission to leave the Kathmandu Valley.
