KATHMANDU: The government has brought an ordinance to grant amnesty to the rebels, including the leader of Nagarik Unmukti Party’s founder leader Resham Chaudhary.
According to a minister in Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s cabinet, the meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Baluwatar on Sunday decided to bring an ordinance to grant amnesty to leader Chaudhary and other rebel inmates.
Adding sub-section 9 to section 116 of the Civil Criminal Procedure Code, 2074, the government is going to provide amnesty to the rebels.
Section 116 of the Criminal Procedure Code states the pending case should not be withdrawn after being filed in the court.
The ruling coalition is about to bring the ordinance to ease government formation.
The Nagarik Unmukti Party set the condition of the release of its leader Resham Chaudhary as a primary condition to participate in the government.
The ruling coalition has resorted to an ordinance to include the said party in the new government.
Similarly, the cases of Janamat Party Chair Dr CK Raut and Netra Vikram Chand Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party leaders are also pending in the court.
The amendment will pave room for the withdrawal of cases of the rebel leaders..
Like Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janamat Party has also set the withdrawal of cases against its leaders as a primary condition to participate in the government.
Although the government sent the ordinance to the President, it is yet to be issued.
