Five-party alliance will be wiped out after Nov 20: UML Chair Oli

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has said the ruling five-party alliance will be wiped out after the November 20 elections.

Labeling the alliance a “curse” for the country, he said the alliance would meet the same fate as the Ranas and the monarchy.

He also dubbed the ruling alliance as “expired drugs”, saying, “The Nepali Congress and the Maoist Center are expired medicines. They will fail to deliver.”

Addressing an election rally in Chitwan on Monday, UML Chairman Oli also urged voters of Chitwan Constituency-3 to vote for Dinesh Koirala, who is a rebel candidate of the Nepali Congress party.

SC retains Dr. Toshima Karki’s candidacy in Lalitpur-3

The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld its interim order to continue Dr. Tosima Karki’s candidature from Lalitpur-3 for the post of the House of Representatives member.

On Monday, the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha continued the interim order given earlier.

A single bench of Justice Kumar Chudal had heard the case against Dr. Tosima and issued an interim order.

The interim order had said that Tosima could not be considered to have received regular salary or financial benefits while being a member of the Nepal Medical Council.

EC briefs diplomatic mission officials about election preparations

The Election Commission (EC) today briefed chiefs and representatives of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu about the preparations in regard to elections to the Member of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA), 2022.

On the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya apprised them of plans and preparations that are in place to hold the voting for the twin elections on November 20 simultaneously in a free, fair, impartial and transparent manner.

The Chief Election Commissioner applauded the international community for their support and cooperation in the EC efforts to make the elections a success.

NC takes action against five candidates for non-cooperation with party

The Nepali Congress (NC) has taken action against five party leaders on the charge of non-cooperation with the party and its election candidates by fielding their candidacy as a rebel candidate.

They have been accused of running in the elections to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly as a rebel candidate against the candidates officially fielded by the party, according to the NC central discipline committee.

The party leaders who faced action are Mangal Bahadur Shahi, a member of the party Mahasamiti, Humla, Rabindra Prasad (Roshan) Yadav and Birendra Prasad Yadav, both Mahasamiti representatives, party members Dharmendra Prasad Yadav and Ram Ekwal Prasad Yadav and Aananda Prasad Dhungana, member of the party discipline committee.

UAE defeats Nepal by 84 runs

Nepal has lost to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a one-day cricket match held in Kathmandu today.

Nepal lost to the UAE by 84 runs in the match held at TU cricket ground in Kirtipur.

Chasing a target of 264 runs set by the visitors, Nepal lost 9 wickets in 50 overs and ended up with only 179 runs on the board.

Buddha Air to operate flights to India from PRIA

Buddha Air, country’s one of the leading private carriers, will operate three flights to India from the Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA).

The flights to three Indian cities (Varanasi or Benaras, New Delhi and Dehradun) will run from January in 2023, said the Company.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has said the airport will come into operation from January in 2023. The Air will operate its first Pokhara-Benaras-Pokhara flight from the airport,” said a company official.

Domestic consumption of petro products falls

The domestic consumption of petroleum products has gone down lately.

According to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the consumption of petroleum products has significantly decreased in the current fiscal year, 2022/23 as compared to the previous year.

Data with the NOC shows that there was the consumption of 44,513 kiloliters of petrol and 78426 kiloliters of diesel from mid-October to mid-November this year as opposed to 63,315 kiloliters of petrol and 135,812 kiloliters of diesel during the correspondent period last year.

NEPSE rises by 21.26 points Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), which has been continuously falling for a few days, has increased by double digits today.

The stock market increased by 21.26 points taking the NEPSE index to 1904.43 points. The market rose by 1.13 percent on Monday.

NEPSE witnessed the transaction worth 946 million rupees from 2,452,084 shares of 226 companies today.

Nepal sees nine new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of nine new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Monday.

Of the confirmed cases, nine were detected through the RT-PCR method and one through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,425 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
