Leader had approached the apex court after the Election Office of Rupandehi revoked his candidacy filed for the post of lawmaker of House of Representatives from Rupandehi-2.

A division bench of Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Kumar Regmi is scheduled to hear the case. As the case is in the first number of the list to be heard today, the hearing is likely to begin shortly.

It was adjourned citing the insufficiency of time on Wednesday. A division bench comprising Justices Sushmalata Mathema and Kumar Regmi could not hear the case as it towards the end of the long queue of the cases scheduled for Wednesday, October 19.

Earlier, a single bench of Justice Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha had issued a short-term interim order not to implement the decision to cancel Gurung’s candidature.

After the Supreme Court issued an interim order, the Chief Election Officer’s office corrected its decision and upheld Gurung’s candidacy.

The order, which will be issued after listening to both the Election Commission and the petitioner, will decide whether Gurung will be allowed to contest the election or not.

CPN-UML led alliance has presented party Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel as a candidate in Rupandehi-2.
