NC election manifesto was drafted by ‘mercenary’ intellects: KP Oli

JHAPA: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has accused Nepali Congress (NC) of getting the election manifesto written through the hired intellects who have no grass root level experience of life.

Speaking at an event organized in his home district Jhapa during the election campaign, the former Prime Minister Oli also termed the coalition parties as puppets.

Death toll in Bajhang accident reaches six

Six people have died in a road accident involving a passenger jeep in Tufan Danda of Mashta Rural Municipality-1, Bajhang this afternoon.

The accident occurred when the jeep (SuPra 01-001Cha 117) going to Khetkot in Mashta-2 from headquarters Chainpur met with an accident.

The jeep fell 200 meters down the road and got stuck in a ditch, according to Information Officer of the District Police Office, Ramesh Dutt Awasthi. It is not clear how many people were travelling in the jeep at the time of the accident. Six bodies have been recovered so far and it is not certain how many people have been injured.

Prachanda’s wife Sita Dahal admitted to ICU

Sita Dahal, wife of CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Medicity Hospital, Lalitpur.

According to hospital sources, Dahal will be kept in the hospital today. The Maoist Center chairman’s wife is suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

PSP is a rare disease. This disease is seen in only 5/6 out of 100,000 people.

Prachanda canceled all his programs citing his wife has been admitted to hospital.

Bus carrying mourners meets with accident in Jhapa, 28 injured

BIRTAMOD: 28 people got injured on Wednesday afternoon when a bus carrying the mourners met with an accident at Shivasatkshi-9, Jhapa.

According to Jhapa police, out of 28 injured people three are in serious condition.

The bus 7 B 2651 was returning to Kunjibari carrying the mourners from Muktighat of Kankai river.

The eyewitnesses said that the bus happened to hit a tree near the road in an attempt skip collision with another bus coming from the same direction.

Nepal sees 48 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 48 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 42 were detected through the RT-PCR method and six through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,783 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

11:37 am auspicious time for Bhai Tika

The Nepal Calendar Fixation Committee has announced 11: 23 am on October 27 as the auspicious time for putting Tihar tika in this year’s Yamapanchak or Tihar festival.

This year’s Tihar festival is starting from October 22, Saturday, with the observance of Yamadeepdan, the offerings of lamps to Yamadeva (the deity of death).

NEPSE declines by 12 points on Wednesday

KATHMANDU: On the fourth day of the week, there was a double-digit decline in the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Wednesday.

The NEPSE index fell by 12.81 points to reach at 1845.51 points. The market, which fell by a normal number on Monday, was closed on Tuesday and fell again on Wednesday.

APF seizes sugar worth Rs 9 million in Nawalparasi

PARASI: The Armed Police Force (APF) has seized a huge quantity of illegally brought sugar in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) on Wednesday morning.

A joint team deployed from APF Nepal Harpur BOP and Maheshpur Customs Office confiscated 420 quintals of sugar from Ramgram municipality and Pratappur rural municipality area in the district.

5.9 magnitude earthquake shakes Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A 5.9 magnitude earthquake was felt in Kathmandu and surrounding areas on Wednesday afternoon.

The quake took place at around 3.08 pm.

According to Lok Bijaya Adhikari, the head of National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the epicenter of today’s earthquake was near Sindhupalchowk- Tibet border.

Maoist Center extends deadline to withdraw rebel nominations till Oct 21

The CPN (Maoist Center) has extended deadline to withdraw nominations of rebel candidates contesting against official candidates of left-democratic alliance.

Chief Secretary of the Maoist Central Office Shriram Dhakal said the time period for withdrawing or deactivating rebel candidature has been extended till October 21.

The Maoists had previously asked rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations by October 17.
