NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding an all-party meet with the opposition parties on Thursday to discuss holding simultaneous elections, Indian media reports have said.
The opposition parties, however, are still undecided on simultaneous elections.
According to reports, the opposition parties are skeptical about the idea and have described PM Modi’s all-party meet as a “trap”. The opposition parties will first meet and discuss before going for the all-party meet.
Indian Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has, however, maintained suspense over party president Rahul Gandhi’s taking part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, also the chief of Trinamool Congress, and Telangana Chief Minister M K Chandrasekhar Rao said they would skip the all-party meet. Likewise, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu is also likely to skip the meeting. (Agencies)
