Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS)’s doctors back to work

JUMLA: Doctors and health workers at the Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) have resumed their regular duties after calling off their protest programs.

They returned to work after an agreement was reached, by which, all the political parties in the district would guarantee security to doctors and health workers at KAHS, a complaint filed against a doctor on the charge of child abuse would be retracted and the collective resignation submitted by the doctors and paramedics will be withdrawn.

Protesting doctors and paramedics had suspended all but emergency health services at the KAHS.

KAHS Teaching Hospital administration said all doctors have returned to work after an agreement was reached that the charge of child abuse against Dr Karan Saha would be withdrawn.

Employees at KAHS had physically assaulted Dr Saha on August 18, accusing him of committing child abuse on six-year-old Prithak Bikram Shahi of Bhandariwada, Chandannath Municipality-2, in course of treatment.

The boy’s mother, Asha Hamal (Shahi), had on August 23 filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Jumla against Dr Saha.

The District Court Jumla had issued an arrest warrant against Dr Saha for investigation and prosecution.
