Tourism Veterans Football Tournament in the offing



KATHMANDU: The Thamel Tourism Veterans Football tournament is to be held for the first time under the auspices of the Thamel Tourism Development Council.

According to information shared by the Council at a press conference on Friday, the first Thamel Tourism Veterans Football tournament is being held to promote the Thamel area through the sports sector.

Vice president of the council and coordinator of the competition Prasraya Rajbhandari said the competition will be held at the Lainchour football ground from coming September 25 to 27.

A total of 20 teams from major cities across the country including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dharan and Chitwan will participate in the competition. There will be two teams from Thamel.

The players in the team will be above forty years of age and the match will last for 40 minutes until the semi-final and the final match will be composed of 60 minutes.

According to the organizers, the winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 200,000, medals and certificate while the runner-up team will win Rs 100,000.

Likewise, the best player, highest scorer and the best goalkeeper will be awarded Rs 10,000 and a certificate.

President of the Lainchaur Youth club and chairperson of Community Police Service Center Thamel Ramba Rajak shared that the Club will provide the ground for free for the Thamel Tourism Veterans Football Cup tournament.

The tournament is expected to cost Rs. 1.2 to 1.5 million and entry for the spectators will be free, according to Rajeev Pandey, general secretary of the council.
