HoR to begin discussion on Transitional Justice Bill today

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting taking place today is discussing the bill on the amendment to Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act 2014.

The Bill was presented in the HoR on Tuesday last week.

Law Minister Govinda Prasad Sharma is to present the Bill for consideration in the HoR today.

The main opposition, CPN-UML, has been protesting the process after the government tried to pass the Bill related to the provision of Transitional Justice (TJ) through the fast track.

Meanwhile, victims of the conflict, human rights defenders, as well as national and international human rights organizations, have been objecting to some of the provisions in the bill.

They have been demanding revision of the list of serious human rights violations.

Last week, Law Minister Sharma presented the revised Bill in the House claiming that the government was going to advance the Bill which was brought to provide relief to the families of those killed and injured during the Maoist armed conflict and to maintain harmony in the society.
