Government to honor record-keeping mountaineers

KATHMANDU: The government is to honor the mountaineers who set records by climbing all 14 peaks of the world including Mount Everest above 8,000 meters.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeewanram Shrestha expressed his commitment to felicitate the record-keeping climbers with a cash prize in recognition of their contributions to keeping the country’s image high.

Minister Shrestha pledged to felicitate the climbers in recognition of their contributions.

“The records of the climbers have heightened the image of the country. The government would incentivize such people with a cash prize,” Minister Shrestha said, adding he would take ahead with the process to honor the climbers.

It may be noted that Nepal’s record-keeping climber Sanu Sherpa had successfully scaled all 14 peaks of the world above 8,000 meters twice.
