Complaint against NOC filed with parliamentary committee

KATHMANDU: The National Consumers Forum has lodged a complaint with a parliamentary committee against Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) for not slashing the price of petroleum products.

Forum’s President Premlal Marhajan submitted an application at the Industry, Commerce, Labor and Consumer Interest Committee under the House of Representatives, demanding an immediate reduction in the price of fuel.

The complaint mentions that the NOC had not reduced the price in spite of the price of fuel continuously decreasing for the past couple of times.

“The price of petroleum products in the international market has been continuously decreasing for the past three months and NOC has been receiving fuel from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at reduced prices for the past two months. However, the NOC, on various pretexts, has not reduced the price of fuel,” said the Forum.

“As per the automatic price adjustment system, price is increased when it increases in the international market, however, when the international market price decreases, the price is not reduced and consumers have been bearing the burnt.”

The Forum urged the committee to take the initiative to reduce the price of fuel and provide relief to the citizens as the NOC had been defrauding consumers by acting dishonestly.
