Govt forms task force to curb crimes related to ‘meter interest’



KATHMANDU: The government has formed a task force under Home Ministry’s joint secretary Bhisma Bhusal to control crimes related to cheating by taking undue interest popularly known as ‘meter interest’.

According to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Secretariat, PM Deuba sent a letter to Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and instructed him to immediately solve the problem related to metered interest. Soon after, Home Minister Khand formed a task force under the leadership of Dr. Bhushal, joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, through a ministerial decision.

SSP Dinesh Acharya, Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, Mr. Krishna Paudel, joint secretary Ministry of Home Affairs, SP Krishna Prasad Koirala, Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, Mukund Marhatha, Deputy Director of Investigation, National Investigation Department are in the task force.

DSP Roshan Khadka of CIB, has been assigned the task of member secretary of the task force. The task force has been mandated to submit its report within a month.
