Parliamentary special committee studying federalism implementation



KATHMANDU: The parliamentary special committee on federalism implementation study and monitoring has started studying the political, legal and administrative difficulties seen in the implementation of federalism in the last five years.

The special committee was constituted in the second week of June under the convenorship of National Assembly member Khimlal Devkota.

It was tasked with studying all aspects including political, fiscal, administrative and structural in connection to federalism implementation, and submitting a report on this.

The committee has been instructed to submit a report after completing study within four months.

National Assembly members Prakash Pantha, Dr Bimala Rai Poudyal, Udaya Bahadur Bohara, Maya Prasad Sharma, Ram Chandra Rai and Pramila Kumari are the members of the committee.

It had started its works from June 10. So far it has held 12 meetings.

In a press conference organized here today, Committee convenor Devkota informed that so far discussions on the implementation of federalism have been held with Constituent Assembly members, the ministers of various ministries, secretaries, the chief secretaries of the provincial governments and the office-bearers of the Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, among the officials concerned.

Devkota said they will give recommendation for making the federal system effective and result-oriented by studying the status of the implementation of political, administrative and fiscal federalism.

According to him, the Committee will hold discussions and interaction with local and provincial level people’s representatives, office chiefs, civil society and the private sector among others in all the seven provinces and collect feedback and suggestions.
