Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has replaced three ministers representing the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) in the cabinet in line with the latter’s request for the same.
Istiyak Rai has replaced Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav, Mrigendra Kumar Singh replaced Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as Minister for Forest and Environment and Pradip Kumar Yadav has become the new Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development in place of Mahindra Raya Yadav.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, on recommendation of the cabinet, appointed the new Ministers this (Monday) afternoon.
UML Chair Oli calls for formation of parliamentary committee
CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli has called for forming a parliamentary committee for investigating into the incident of non-availability of the CCTV footage at the Finance Ministry in course of the budget formulation.
Seeking special time in the meeting of the House of Representatives today (Monday), the leader of the main opposition in parliament challenged the government to have this episode investigated and demanded that the Prime Minister should furnish a reply in this connection.
The UML Chair and former Prime Minister claimed that the government’s works in connection to topics as the nation’s economy and foreign affairs were inappropriate.
Home Minister Khand and Indian Ambassador Srivastava meet
Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand and Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava have held a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singha Durbar, today.
Ambassador Srivastava has arrived Nepal recently and it is his first meeting with the Home Minister.
On the occasion, they exchanged views regarding further deepening and consolidating the mutual relations between Nepal and India, said Madhusudan Bhattarai, the Home Minister’s press coordinator.
Security guard at Indian Embassy commits suicide
A security guard at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has died after he shot himself.
An embassy source said that a security guard shot himself at around 9 am on Monday.
The embassy deploys separate security personnel at the Indian Mission.
Nepal Police said that the Indian side has said they would investigate the incident on their own.
Omicron’s BA.5 sub-variant detected in Nepal
A new sub-variant of Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in Nepal.
According to the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Division (EDCD) Director Dr Chumanlal Das, gene sequencing conducted at a lab of Kavrepalanchowk-based Dhulikhel Hospital confirmed the presence of the BA.5 sub-variant.
As he said, a further study about the virus is going on and the EDCD is trying to identify its carrier.
Prior to this, the BA.2 Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 was found and gene sequencing of the sample of infected is underway at the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku.
Daughter education insurance scheme resumes in Madhes Province
The daughter education insurance scheme that was halted for the past two years due to COVID-19 has resumed in Madhes Province.
Education Director of the Education Development Directorate, Madhes Province, Chuda Mani Phuyal shared this information amid a function held in Janakpur, adding that an agreement in this regard has reached with Global IME Bank.
Director Phuyal, on behalf of the provincial government, and Global IME Bank Province Chief Sujan Shrestha signed the agreement. Those baby girls born on January 15 and thereafter would be covered by the scheme.
KMC increases education spending three-fold
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has allocated a budget of more than Rs 700 million for education in the coming fiscal year.
This is three-fold more than the budget of running fiscal year.
KMC Education Department Officer Ram Prasad Subedi said, “About Rs 220 million was allocated for the current fiscal year. And over Rs 700 million has been allocated for the coming fiscal. That’s about three times more. ”
The metropolis has introduced various programs for public education reform this year.
NEPSE loses 9.75 points on Monday, registers highest turnover since March
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 9.75 points today (Monday) and closed at 2,076.67 points.
The index had gained 57.61 points yesterday, Sunday.
Opening at 2095.62 points today, the market made an intraday high of 2,148.61 points and an intraday day low of 2,059 points. However, before the market closed, the index settled at 2,076.67 points.
A total of 10,981,591 shares of 234 companies were traded via 75,790 transactions, resulting in total turnover of Rs 4.349 billion. This is the highest transaction since March 27, 2022.
SBBS resumes production after halt of four months
The Singhadurbar Baidyakhana Bikash Samiti (SBBS), the only state-owned manufacturer unit that produces Ayurvedic medicines has resumed production with a halt of four months.
Now, the latest product is Triphala (an herbal remedy), a mixture of three dried fruits (Amala (Indian gooseberry), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).
This follows the appointment of Dr Shyam Babu Yadav as its officiating executive director by the Ministry of Health and Population recently.
