KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have reached an agreement to maintain electoral coordination in Palungtar Municipality of Gorkha.

The district leaderships of the UML and the JSP in Gorkha agreed to support each other in Palungtar Municipality.

According to the agreement, the UML will support the JSP for the post of mayor of Palungtar and the JSP will assist the UML for deputy mayor.

A joint press release issued after the agreement was signed by UML district president Prem Gurung and JSP district president Yan Prasad Bhatta.

They have coordinated for the post of ward chairperson.

Of the 10 wards in Palungtar, JSP staked claim to the posts of seven ward chairpersons and the UML to the remaining 3 posts.

In Palungtar, the JSP had earlier agreed to coordinate with the Nepali Congress. However, the two parties withdrew from the agreement due to differences over ward distribution.

Palungtar is hometown of JSP Federal Council Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
