KATHMANDU: The rumors of likely interruption of internet service have been settled after the government and the Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal (ISPAN) reached an agreement.
The government agreed to facilitate payments to Indian companies to ensure internet service is not disrupted.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Nepal have been purchasing bandwidth from Indian companies such as Tata Communications, Bharti Airtel and Sify Broadband, among others.
Indian companies had informed Nepali ISPs that the internet could be disrupted after the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), pointing out Nepali ISP’s inadequacies, stopped recommending foreign currency for payments to Indian partners.
As per the agreement reached between ISPAN and the MoCIT, the payment will be facilitated from Wednesday.
With this, the fear of internet services being disrupted is allayed.
