Surya Nepal Golf Challenge commencing from today



KATHMANDU: The sixth event on the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-22, Surya Nepal Challenge, will be played at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) in Kathmandu from today to 22.

The tournament will be played over 72 holes, in which 56 players are taking part. As many as 36 professionals and 20 amateurs will be in the fray.

According to the organizers, there shall be a cut applied after 36 holes. 21 top scoring professionals with the ties (if any) and top six amateurs or who make the professional cut will make it to the final 36 holes. The playing condition of the golf course has been tweaked up for the tournament.

Most participants played a practice round on the course to acclimatize to the conditions.

The event carries a total purse of Rs 545,000 and the winner will bag a cheque of Rs 100,000, Runner up will take home Rs 65,000 and third place will earn Rs 46,000.

Others in the top 21 will also receive their share of cash prizes.

Top contenders in Surya Nepal Challenge this year are Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Jayram Shrestha, Sanjay Lama, Rabi Khadka, Ram Thapa and the winner of last event amateur Subash Tamang.

Popular Nepali golfer Sukra Bahadur Rai is currently playing in a professional golf tour of India.

Nepal Professional Golf Association (NGPA) and RNGC President Rabindra Man Shrestha said, “I am confident that the scoring from both professionals and amateurs are going to be low in the tournament.
