KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has instructed the district committee not to finalize local level candidates immediately.

Issuing a circular to all the district committees, the NC urged not hurry to nominate candidates for the post of rural municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson even though work for the same was underway.

NC Central Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said that the district committee have been asked to go slow with candidacy nomination. “It’s okay to recommend candidates, however, they have been asked not to take a final call on candidates and wait as the center could be involved,” he said.

As per NC statute, House of Representatives regional parliamentary committee selects candidates for ward chairpersons and ward members. Similarly, district committee picks candidates for rural municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson.

Candidates for mayor and deputy mayor at the municipalities and sub-metropolitan cities will be selected by the provincial committee and the mayor and deputy mayor of the metropolis will be selected by the central committee.
