People representatives should dedicate themselves to the people: President

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that addressing the daily needs of the people is the most effective way to institutionalize democracy.

Inaugurating the reconstructed ancient Kalika temple at Namobuddha Municipality-5, in Kavre, on Wednesday, President Bhandari said, “By embracing this spirit of the constitution, every people’s representative should always dedicate herself to the service of the people.”

She also emphasized the need for giving special importance to the protection of nature and the environment while prioritizing physical construction and infrastructure development at the local level. “Only by promoting greenery, conserving water resources, and protecting biodiversity we can make this beautiful land safer for future generations,” she said.

Bhandari said that the issue of providing basic services such as education, health, clean drinking water and sanitation to the people in a simple and easy manner should be a matter of serious concern for all. She also expressed happiness over the renovation of the Kalika Temple, which has helped maintain its cultural and historical glory.

Following the inauguration, President Bhandari offered prayers at the temple.

On the occasion, Mayor Tanka Prasad Sharma Timalsina said that the construction of the temple damaged by the devastating earthquake of 2015 was completed at a cost of Rs. 40.4 million.
