NC decides to form electoral alliances based on local circumstances and needs

The Nepali Congress (NC) has made a formal decision to form electoral alliances based on local situations and needs.

A meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) held on Tuesday decided to this effect.

The NC officially decided to coordinate with the coalition partners CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-Unified Socialist, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and Rastriya Janamorcha at the local levels for the upcoming May 13 election.

Agenda and delegation of PM Deuba’s visit to India still undecided

The agenda of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s upcoming visit to India has yet to be decided.

At a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the Ministry’s Spokesperson Sewa Lamsal said that said preparation for PM Deuba’s India visit was underway. “However, the agenda and the members of the delegation were yet to be finalized.”

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is leaving on a three-day visit to India on April 1. He is scheduled to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on April 2. On the same day, PM Deuba is to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President of India.

FCAN seeks construction holiday as price of construction materials double

The Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) has demanded that the government declare a construction holiday, saying that construction materials have become too expensive.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday to announce the decision of the recent national gathering of the federation, FCAN President Ravi Singh said that the construction holiday should be declared as the investment also went up due to high cost of construction materials.

He urged to minimize the impact of price hike in construction materials if construction holiday could not be declared. He declared that the construction work could not be carried out in the current situation.

Government approves several proposals put forth by China

The government has decided to approve the grant and the technical assistance related to the feasibility study for trans-border railway to be received under the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement proposed by China.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki informed in this regard at a news conference organized Tuesday while making public the decisions of the Council of Ministers held on March 28.

Minister Karki said the Cabinet meeting decided to extend by two years the term of the implementation agreement concerning oil and natural gas resource survey in Nepal. It decided to approve the letter of intent related to zero customs and quota-free facility between Nepal and China as well as the agreement regarding the feasibility of grid connection between the two countries.

NEPSE spirals down; market continues to fall

The downward trend in the stock market continued on Tuesday as well.

The market has declined by 14.26 points today. At the same time, the Nepse index closed at 2,527.58 points.

The transaction amount also decreased to Rs 1.75 billion.

Shrestha appointed as SC Justice

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on the recommendation of the Judicial Council, has appointed Til Prasad Shrestha as Justice of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Prior to this, Shrestha was serving the High Court Biratnagar as the Chief Judge.

Earlier, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) okayed Shrestha’s appointment after conducting a hearing.

NOC proposes granting public holiday on Sunday to reduce fuel consumption

Nepal Oil Corporation has proposed to grant public holidays on Saturday and Sunday and also to re-introduce the provision of odd-even rule in the public and private vehicles to reduce fuel consumption in the country.

Sending a 10-point proposal to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies on Tuesday, the corporation has suggested adding a public holiday on Sunday as well.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khadka meets Indian counterpart Jaishankar in Colombo

Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka has met Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the 18th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

During the brief sideline meet, matters such as cooperation in connectivity, energy, fertilizers, health and power, including preparations for Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s scheduled April visit to India, were discussed.

The two leaders also agreed on tracking the progress of and moving forward the Ramayan circuit.

Two injured as IED goes off in Itahari

Two persons have sustained injuries in a bomb explosion in Itahari Sub Metropolitan City-2 in Sunsari.

According to District Police Office, Sunsari, an improvised explosive device (IED) went off at a house based in Janajagriti tole in Itahari Sub Metropolitan City-2 at 10:45 pm on Monday. The IED kept in a bag had exploded, according to police.

Meanwhile, police have recovered a flyer of Himal Suraksha Parishad, which has been staging an armed struggle calling for scrapping of federalism.
