JANAKPUR: CPN-Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the decision to forge an electoral alliance among the five-party alliance in the upcoming local level elections rests with the Nepali Congress (NC).

Talking to the media at Janakpur Airport today (Tuesday), Prachanda said, “So far the five-party alliance have no differing issues and proposals are afloat for forging the electoral alliance, but the final decision is in the hands of the NC.” He was in Janakpur to address the Province-level political orientation of the party.

According to him, the party wished to continue the current alliance till the elections, but the NC’s role is vital in determining the future course as remarks in different tone are coming from the NC itself. “If NC declined the idea of electoral alliance, we will face the election on our own strength.”

Stating that there were no talks within the five-party alliance in regard with incorporating the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (Democratic Socialist Party), he said, however, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Maoist Center were mulling over the matter.

He went on to say, “Talks are underway among the government coalition partners to reshuffle the Council of Ministers. But the formal decision is awaited,” the Maoist leader said, hinting at the possibility of entry of some new faces as well.

He also added that the next session of the House of Representatives is expected to endorse the citizenship bill and the bill to operate railway service.
