Govt recommends proroguing parliament session

KATHMANDU: The government has recommended proroguing the session of the federal parliament.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the cabinet meeting held today (Tuesday) recommended to President Bidya Devi Bhandari to end the parliament session from midnight tonight.

There is a provision by which the President prorogues and starts parliamentary sessions on the recommendation of the government.

The major achievement of the current session of the parliament is that the House of Representatives (HoR) ratified the United States grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which had been stuck in the House for long.

Likewise, the HoR also registered an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana in the current session.

However, the government has recommended ending the parliament session without holding discussion on the impeachment motion in the running session.

Earlier, the next sitting of HoR was slated for tomorrow, Wednesday.
