KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been registered at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding revocation of the appropriation of the budget for lawmakers in the name of development of electoral constituencies under the Constituency Infrastructure Development Program.

The petitioner, advocate Paras Bhattarai, had filed the writ petition claiming it as unconstitutional, and demanding that the allocation of Rs 60 million to the federal lawmakers be revoked.

Even though Bhattarai had filed the petition last Monday, SC Registrar Lal Bahadur Kunwar had refused to register the petition.

However, the petition was registered after Justice Dambar Bahadur Shahi ordered its registration on Thursday following Bhattarai’s appeal against Kunwar’s denial.

The petition has stated that the allocation of Rs 60 million to the lawmakers of the federal parliament for fiscal year 2076/77 be revoked.
