Sherpa community celebrating Gyalpo Lhosar today

KATHMANDU: Sherpa community is observing Gyalpo Lhosar across the country by organizing various programs today.

The Gyalpo Lhosar is celebrated on Falgun Shukla Pratipada as per the Lunar calendar, believing that this marks the beginning of the year.

Sherpa people are celebrating 2149th Gyalpo Lhosar this year by exchanging greetings, cleaning houses, alleys, water resources and eating Guthuk, the mixed delicacies of nine different food items.

This festival is taken as an opportunity that fosters a social harmony, reunion and reconciliation among the kith and kin and family members.

On the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended Lhosar greetings expressing belief that it would help foster social harmony, brotherhood, and good will among the Nepali people living in the country and abroad.

Similarly, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended Lhosar greetings sating that Nepal is rich in tribal, linguistic, religious and cultural diversities.

He further mentioned that the Nepal government ratified ILO Convention on the rights of indigenous and tribal people on September 13, 2007.
