Tiny changes in international, regional security environment likely to affect Nepal: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minster and Defense Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed the concerned side to remain alert towards any possible effects on an overall security sector due to minor changes in international and regional security environment considering sensitive geo-political instability of the country.

Inaugurating a two-day Command Army Chief Coordination Meeting at the Nepal Army Headquarters a week before Mahashivaratri and Army Day, PM Deuba cautioned the army command towards possible influence of international and regional security in country’s political, economic and social sectors.

Expressing confidence that high quality and expert human resource would be produced in future through well management of the National Defense University, he lauded the Nepal Army for its contributions to the construction of various national roads, including the Kathmandu-Madhes fast track, and different national road corridors having strategic importance in country’s economic development.

Noting that the Nepal Army has been successful in timely completing road infrastructure projects of the country, PM Deuba pledged to not allow any resource gaps in the projects being executed by the Army. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to create enabling environment to immediately implement the ‘Bunker to Barrack Program’ and also motivate all ranks and files of the NA.

On the occasion, PM and Defense Minister Deuba extended best wishes to all army personnel at home and abroad for their happiness, peace, prosperity and good health, shared NA Directorate of Public Relations and Information.

Likewise, Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma said the NA would discharge the constitution-stipulated responsibilities in any circumstances and is committed to fully comply with the directives of the Nepal government. “The Nepal Army would continually study, monitor and analyze the affairs associated with national security and stability and also always remain in alert situation to overcome potential security challenges”, he added.

In the meeting, the chiefs of departments, directorate-general and directorate would deliver presentation on current status of the areas of their responsibility, work review and recommendations.
