Deadly explosions hit Kirkuk

BAGHDAD: Improvised explosive devices went off on Thursday in the northern city of Kirkuk killing several people and wounding more than a dozen, says the Iraqi military. At least six blasts took place in quick succession after ‘Iftar’ — the ritual meal that breaks daylong fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Streets during Iftar are typically crowded with shoppers and people. Police blocked off all roads around the blast sites. Only ambulances carrying the wounded are passing the roads to nearby hospitals.

Iraq had declared victory over ISIL (Islamic Terrorist Group) way back in December 2017. However, Iraq is yet not free from such blasts.  (Agencies)
