Permission granted for feasibility study of two mega solar projects

KATHMANDU: The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) has granted permission to conduct feasibility study of two mega solar projects.

The meeting of the IBN convened at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Tuesday granted permission for feasibility study of 125-megawatt solar project at Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality of Doti district and 225-megawatt project at Amargadhi Municipality of Dadheldhura district. The total estimated cost for these two mega solar projects is above Rs 23 billion.

According to IBN, MS Central Electronics Limited will conduct the feasibility study of both the projects.

Similarly, the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is also the chairperson of the IBN, approved over Rs 9.6 billion investment for capacity building and products diversification of the Dabur Nepal Pvt Ltd. Likewise, the meeting approved the preliminary report presented by the Sutlej Electricity Corporation, the promotor of the Arun III hydropower project.

The IBN has been granted authority to ink MoU with various investment promotion-related organizations.

IBN Spokesperson Bhagwan Aryal shared that IBN has been permitted to obtain membership of the World Association of PPA Units and Professionals (WAPPP), a global non-governmental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Furthermore, the IBN decided to make public its report on the technical analysis of the fertilizer factory proposed to be set up in Nepal. During the meeting, PM Deuba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforms at legal and policy levels and to enable an investment-friendly environment to attract investors.

The PM instructed the IBN, a body established by the government to facilitate economic development by enabling an investment-friendly environment, to accelerate the feasibility study of the development projects and to emphasize construction of projects.

On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of IBN, Sushil Bhatta, briefed the attendants about the activities and projects taken forward by the IBN and the progress report of the development projects.

Present in the meeting were Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Forests and Environment Ramsahay Prasad Yadav and chief secretary of the government of Nepal, Shanker Das Bairagi among others.
