World’s tiniest surviving baby all healthy

LOS ANGELES:

The tiniest surviving baby named Saybie was born in 23 weeks and three days in a California hospital instead of 40 weeks — normal maturity period for any pregnancy.

Saybie was delivered through emergency cesarean operation after her mother developed severe pregnancy complications. She weighed just 245 grams (8.6 ounces)- the same as an apple weighs- when she was born.

After nearly five months at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, Saybie is weighing a healthy five pounds (2.2 kilograms) now.  (Agencies)
