Impeachment against CJ Rana unlikely sans consensus among parties: Maoist Chair Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has clarified that an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana could not be tabled in the parliament without consensus among political parties.

He added that an impeachment motion against CJ Rana was not likely even in the winter session of the federal parliament convened on December 14 without national consensus and understanding among the parties.

Addressing the fourth National General Convention of party-aligned Press Center, Nepal, in Chitwan Saturday, the Maoist chair also remarked that the parliament could not decide even on United States grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the absence of consensus and understanding among the political forces. He said that the impeachment of CJ Rana and passage of the MCC would largely be dependent on the political consent among parties.

On the occasion, he appealed to the leaders and members of the Press Center Nepal to firmly stand in favor of democracy and the republic, without fretting about impeachment of the Chief Justice and fate of MCC.

Warning that the threat of regression was still not fully averted in the country, he urged the journalists to write against such regressive elements. Comparing the 10th National General Convention of the CPN-UML recently held in Chitwan with Panchayat system, he drew attention of journalists close to the party towards such events and directed them to be more vigilant and active.
