US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu meets UML Chairman Oli

“Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has not consulted with UML about MCC”

KATHMANDU: US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, who is on a visit to Nepal, has met the Chairman of the main opposition CPN-UML, KP Oli on Friday.

In the meeting held at the UML parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar, they discussed various aspects of Nepal-US relations, according to Oli’s Secretariat.

On the occasion, UML Chairman Oli thanked the US Government for continued cooperation in the socio-economic development of Nepal.

Oli also expressed appreciation for the support of COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal.

In response, the Assistant Secretary assured Oli of continued US cooperation to Nepal.

Meanwhile, sources said US Assistant Secretary of State Lu asked Oli about his party’s position on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

In response, Chairman Oli said that since his party was not in the government, he cannot give a clear position on MCC, and that the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has not consulted with them.

UML parliamentary party deputy leader Subash Nemwang, leaders Bishnu Rimal and Rajan Bhattarai were also present at the meeting.

Lu, who arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening, met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Baluwatar on Thursday evening.

Lu arrived in Kathmandu today on a two-day visit to Nepal on Wednesday evening.
